A commitment to training and learning has underpinned the success of Linford Group for more than 125 years, with the company's large, directly employed workforce being nationally renowned for the quality of their work on new and historic buildings alike.
The Linford commitment to careers has led us to develop training programmes in every area of our business. We actively encourage our employees to learn skills - both new techniques and traditional crafts - that are needed within our diverse project portfolio. Maintaining our reputation for high-quality work makes sound training essential and our investments in developing and rewarding our staff continue to pay dividends for all involved.
Trainees receive individual assessments to tailor a development programme that harnesses their interests and talents and links to relevant qualifications where appropriate. Technical Trainees and Apprentices are given every encouragement for promotion and career development, including six-monthly training appraisals, and we operate a Group policy to promote from within whenever possible.
Combining practical experience with technical and academic learning by placing apprentices with craftsmen on site and in the workshops has always been the best way of developing tomorrow's Master Craftsmen and Site Foremen. The Linford workshops and studios, producing joinery, stonemasonry, wood carving, stone sculpture and fine crafts within a fully commercial environment, have for generations been an inspiration to craft apprentices.
In recent years, with the nearest college to teach advanced heritage skills (up to NVQ Level 5) being more than 100 miles away, Linford Group has been keen to develop a brand new facility. The result is the Lichfield Centre for Master Crafts, an exciting new centre of excellence which will take apprentices from NVQ 3 to NVQ 5 in all the traditional heritage skills.
